Assemblymember Steven Choi Reacts to Cottie Petrie-Norris' Failure to Suspend the Gas Tax
Where is Cottie Petrie-Norris? Why did she again, for the second time, fail to cut the price of gas by 51 cents a gallon?
March 24, 2022 – Today, Assemblymember Steven Choi, Ph.D. (R – Irvine) issued the following statement after the California State Assembly failed to suspend the gas tax:
“I am beyond disappointed that Cottie Petrie-Norris again refused to drop the price of gasoline by 51 cents per gallon by suspending the state gas tax. The California state budget is overflowing with cash, currently sitting on a $40+ *billion* surplus, while families in my district are struggling to afford gas and groceries.
“Enough is enough. Cottie Petrie-Norris is playing politics and dodging a clear solution with several hypothetical rebate plans that might kick in come July. Californians need relief now – today – and we can provide it by immediately suspending the gas tax. But yet again Cottie Petrie-Norris cares more about protecting special interests than providing immediate gas price relief to working families.
“Where is Cottie Petrie-Norris? Why did she again, for the second time, fail to cut the price of gas by 51 cents a gallon? As Joint Author of the bill which would suspend the gas tax, I will not stop fighting to provide direct relief to my constituents and all Californians.” ###
