Assemblymember Steven Choi, Ph.D. Announces Re-Election Bid to New 73rd Assembly District
(Irvine, CA) - Dr. Steven S. Choi has announced his re-election bid to the California State Assembly in the new 73rd District. Dr. Choi has served the constituents of the current 68th Assembly District since 2016. The new 73rd Assembly District includes much of the Dr. Choi’s current Assembly District including the cities of Irvine and Tustin while adding the City of Costa Mesa.
"I feel like I am returning home to represent the entire City of Irvine again as I did for over a decade as a Councilmember and Mayor of Irvine. I am excited to run to represent all of Irvine, and look forward to serving the people of Costa Mesa,” Dr. Choi remarked. “Although district lines have changed, my principles remain the same, i.e., I am committed to represent the voices of the people, not the government or bureaucracies. I have always fought to reduce regulations, lower taxes, and protect small businesses, and I am running to continue this important work in the State Assembly,” Choi added.
The Orange County Business Council (OCBC) named Assemblyman Steven Choi as 2021 Legislator of the Year. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) named Assemblymemebr Choi a "Guardian of Small Businesses” for his 100% Voting Record supporting small business. The California Taxpayer Foundation Tax and Fee Report found Assemblymember Choi to be the only legislator to not support a single dollar in increased taxes or fees in the entire legislature. The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has also awarded Assemblymember Choi an "A" Report Card Rating every year since being elected to the State Assembly for his tireless efforts protecting hardworking taxpayers.
Steven Choi served as Mayor and a Councilmember of Irvine for 12 years prior to his election to the State Assembly in 2016. A life-long educator, Dr. Choi also served as Trustee of the Irvine Unified School District. Now, he serves as Vice Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee in addition to serving in the Committees of Banking and Finance; Human Services; Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media; and Legislative Ethics. He and his wife Janie are business owners for over 30 years in Irvine, and have two grown children, a physician and an attorney.
